What is Dental Education Sponsorship? Dental Capacity supports the vision of local dentists for specialization in their respective field to become future dental leaders. This includes Masters programs, 4-year specialty residencies, and preparation training for admittance into these programs.

Project #4: Dental Education Sponsorship
Barratou recently graduated high school and was looking for a way to make an impact within her community and Guinea as a whole. Since her sister, Aissatou Bhoye Bah, is the President of Capacité Dentaire, she was interested in a career in the dental field. Increased access to oral health services throughout Guinea requires both dentists and auxiliary dental professionals. Barretou decided to pursue a career as a dental assistant through a 2-year program in Casablanca, Morocco.

Why are you pursuing dental assistant as a career?

I chose to train as a dental assistant because teeth are vital organs that are essential to the proper functioning for all people, whether in the field of mastication or facial esthetics. For some people, the loss of teeth can have an impact on their self-confidence and self-esteem. Losing a tooth or missing teeth impacts a person's life when they attach importance to them. The work of a dental assistant is to support the dentist and patient during their time in clinic. I get the opportunity to provide patient education, teach young children how to brush, and ensure that the patient has a safe and enjoyable experience at the dental office.
What do you plan to do after your training?

After my training, I plan to return to Guinea, which is my native country, and work with the dental department to help train students in dental assisting. I will be collaborating with dentists to guarantee optimal results for patients.

What are your long-term plans?
​
My long-term plans would be to contribute to the training of specialists wanting to make a career in dental assisting by setting up an effective and practical training program to impact more people, and to provide a daily update on the various advances in the field.

I would like to thank the NGO, Dental Capacity, for the opportunity they gave me to go and train. I will be grateful to you for the rest of my life, it's an opportunity I didn't expect to be honest, and one that neither I nor my family could afford.
